Louvre Component System (Galleries)

Louvre Component System (Galleries)

You can install the Altair Louvre galleries on their own into your own finished timber frame.  Altair Weatherstrip is available for this option to make the window seal correctly and to comply with the Product Performance Warranty.

The Louvre Component System:

  • is a cost effective louvre solution
  • is great when you want a slim look as there is no outer frame
  • has a mullion strip which enables multiple bays to be constructed
  • can have screw holes in the jambs where fixing into timber jambs or without where mullions strips are required

Blade Height

There are two blade heights to choose from.  Choosing your blade height is like choosing the colour of your products.  It comes down to personal taste and the look you are trying to achieve.

Grey Glass Louvre Blade

152mm (6″) blades are usually incorporated into wider feature windows in residential applications.  This is the most common blade height.

Grey Glass Louvre Blade

102mm (4″) blades are commonly used in narrow window beside doors, in short windows to get more blade in or in bathrooms.  In the right application, the 102mm blades look great.  They do work out to be slightly more costly as there are more blades per window.

Blade Types

Clear Glass Louvre Blade

Low E Glass Louvre Blade

Satina Louvre Blade

Satinlite Louvre Blade

Green Glass Louvre Blade

Grey Glass Louvre Blade

Glass Blades allow natural light and when tinted can cut down on the heating effects of sunlight

There are a range of glass louvre blades available including:

  1. Clear glass makes the most of the views
  2. Low E glass improves the insulating properties of the glass
  3. Satina obscure glass has a similar finish to opal acid etched and give superior privacy
  4. Satinlite obscure glass allows a soft diffused light into the room while retaining your privacy
  5. Green glass is used to reduce solar heat gain and gives the view a crisp vibrant look
  6. Grey glass is also used to reduce solar heat gain and is good to reduce the glare

All glass blades are 6mm thick and have smooth polished edges.

Aluminium Blade Powdercoated for louvre windows

Alumimium blades Decowood finish

Alumimium blades Clear Anodised

Aluminium Blades look modern and provide privacy with ventilation

Aluminium blades come in the following finishes:

  1. Powdercoated to your choice of colour
  2. Decowood finish for a timber look with the easy maintenance of aluminium
  3. Clear anosided for a modern look to suit clear anodised frames

Aluminium blades are 6mm thick and have a smooth finish and a seal along the bottom of the inside edge of each blade.

Timber Blades provide privacy and energy savings by reducing the amount of heat that can pass through the window.

Timber blades are made of Western Red Cedar.  They are 14mm thick to be used with a 14mm clip only. A rubber seal runs along the bottom of the inside edge of each blade.  These blades usually come unfinished so you are able to coat them to suit your application.

Control Method Choices

As well as choosing a control style, handle positions can be varied to allow windows of different sizes and at different heights to be matched or to allow handles to be moved lower or higher, left or right depending on the individual requirements.

Each handle can operate a maximum of 9 clips including at least one clip directly below the handle.

Powerlouvres are great for out-of-reach locations or at floor level.  They can be operated by wall switch, remote control or building management systems.

Security for your Louvre Windows

Keylocks come standard on Altair® Louvres in Easyscreen® (131mm) or SL2® (52mm) frame.  The louvre component system may be ordered with or without keylocks.  Framed louvres can be ordered without keylocks.

The keylock is located on the opposite side to the handle.  When the louvres are fully closed and the keylock is engaged, it increases the window’s locking pressure, further improving the air and water tightness.

Keylocks come in brushed chrome finish (pictured).

INVISI-GARD screens can be fitted to the Easyscreen (131mm) frame for a security option that allows you to feel secure to leave your windows open but still allows uninterupted views to the outside.

Read more about INVISI-GARD products.

Security Bars are available to fit into the Easyscreen (131mm) frame with 152mm blades.

Security bars do not impede the operation of the louvre window but provide and impenetrable barrier for thieves.

The Stonghold® System

Altair® Louvres with the Stronghold System have been designed to mechanically hold the blades in place.  It improves blade retention and minimises the risk of the blades being dislodged.  It is excellent to use in windows above 4m for safety.

To keep the blades in position, a pin is installed through the clip and glass.  The insertion point is on the inside of the building making it almost impossible to remove it, or the blade from the outside.

The blades must be aluminium or toughened with the Stronghold System.
